The Comparison Hub

Publish honest comparison pages and "best X for Y" roundups for buyers who are already shopping.

The original

NerdWallet built a public company on helping people compare credit cards, banking, insurance, loans and investing products. In 2025 it reported revenue of $836.6 million, up 22% on the year (NerdWallet results, 25 February 2026).

Its annual report is candid about the dependence: it relies on internet search engines, particularly Google, and its chief executive cited organic search headwinds as consumers turned to AI overviews and chatbots, offset by growth in other channels.

Best for

SaaS, services, finance and e-commerce: any category where buyers compare named options.

Why it works

Buyers comparing named products are close to a decision, and AI engines now answer those questions from the same kinds of pages. In Wix's study of 1,056,727 citations across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, listicles (rankings and roundups) took 40.86% of citations on commercial queries, against 4.08% for comparison pages (Wix AI Search Lab, March 2026). Zapier's "best apps" roundups show the scale: Ahrefs estimated one, on to-do list apps, at about 58,800 organic visits a month (Ahrefs, August 2022).

How it runs

  1. List the 10 to 20 comparisons buyers actually make, including competitors against each other, not only against you.
  2. Build "best X for Y" roundups as well as one-to-one pages, since roundups are what AI engines cite most.
  3. Give each page a real table: price, limits, integrations, support, who it suits.
  4. Say where the other product wins. It makes the page believable and quotable.
  5. Open with a short "who should pick which" verdict, and keep prices current with a visible "last checked" date.
  6. Link each page to a trial, demo or quote.

Proof

Verified. NerdWallet's annual report and 2025 results. Vendor. Wix AI Search Lab's citation study (March 2026) and Ahrefs' traffic estimates for Zapier (August 2022).

Cost to test, and when to stop

Cost to test. No media spend. A few days per page, and an hour a month to keep prices current.

Kill it if after two quarters the pages bring no sign-ups or demo requests.

Watch-outs

Google's March 2026 core update hit aggregators, directories and comparison-driven sites hardest (Aleyda Solis, using Sistrix data, via PPC Land, April 2026), so pages need original testing and opinion, not templated tables. A comparison you publish about yourself is presumed biased: be fair to competitors or it loses trust and links. Trademark use in titles and ads has rules by country.
